BARCELONA CLOSE IN ON KEIRRISON DEAL

Barcelona are on the verge of signing Brazilian striker Keirrison from Palmeiras.

The Spanish champions are keen to acquire the services of the 20-year-old, who finished as the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A 2008 top scorer, with 21 goals for former club Coritiba. Keirrison joined Palmeiras in January.

"We are close to formalising Keirrison's contract, there's already a pre-agreement in place," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

"Keirrison is a player we have been monitoring for some time and we expect to announce his signing soon."

Laporta also spoke today of Barcelona's other summer targets.

The Catalan outfit have tried to lure David Villa, one of the most highly coveted strikers in Europe, to the Nou Camp.

However, Valencia are reluctant to sell the Spanish international and Barca are also eyeing other candidates, including Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan.

"They (Villa and Forlan) are great players," said Laporta. "Valencia president (Manuel Llorente) told me today he doesn't want to sell Villa and (Atletico president Enrique) Cerezo also said the same thing when I told him we liked Forlan."
