Inter Look To Bayern Munich Striker Luca Toni

Luca Toni and Inter are finally close to tying the knot, three years after the summer 2006 fiasco, when theBayern Munich and Italy hitman seemed on the verge of joining the Nerazzurri for €25 million. Fiorentina, where the striker played at that time, had already accepted the bid and Toni was ready to sign on the dotted line. But then Viola patron Diego Della Valle stepped in and persuaded the lanky striker to stay put to help Fiorentina overcome their hefty Calciopoli points penalty with the promise of releasing him the following year. That is exactly what happened in 2007, but Fiorentina only pocketed €11m from his transfer to Bayern. After a hugely successful maiden season in Bavaria, Toni struggled with injury problems last term and the arrivals of Mario Gomez and Ivica Olic could well push him out of the starting line-up in the season that will lead to the World Cup in South Africa. The ex-Palermo man stated on Sunday that he does not know where he will play next season but Sky Sport Italia claims that his agent, Tullio Tinti, has recently met with Inter officials. The Nerazzurri are prepared to offer Toni a contract worth €4m per season, while a bid in the region of €6m should be enough to prise him away from Bavaria. Inter are still unsure whether Swedish ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic will hang around for next season, with press reports suggesting he is keen on a move to Spain. The Serie A champions have already signed Argentine forward Diego Milito to bolster their striking options and Twente marksman Marko Arnautovic is also said to be on his way to Appiano Gentile.
