I Am In Talks With Aston Villa – Tottenham Hotspur’s David Bentley

After splashing out £16 million on David Bentley from Blackburn Rovers last summer, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offload the winger this summer, most likely to Aston Villa. The endless rumours during the latter half of the season have now been given credence after the player told The Sun that he is in negotiations with the Villans. "I’m in talks with Villa at the moment," Bentley revealed. "I really don’t want to say much more. But we’ll see what happens. I’m hopeful of sorting it out as soon as possible." His spectacular goal in the derby against Arsenal in a thrilling 4-4 draw was one of his few highlights last season as Bentley failed to hold down a first team place since moving to his boyhood club last year. Bentley only played 24 league games for Spurs last season after hoping that regular football would enhance his England chances. This has caused national team manager Fabio Capello to look elsewhere for the right-wing spot. The clubs are yet to agree a price for the 24-year-old, but Spurs will have to take a significant loss on Bentley. A £7m fee is being touted, less than half of what they paid for him a year ago.
