Fergie expected Ron move, Vidic commits to United

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United did well to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford for as long as they did before finally succumbing to Real Madrid's advances.
United's acceptance of Madrid's £80m bid for the Portugal playmaker earlier this week brought an end to one of the longest-running transfer sagas of recent years.
Ronaldo's desire to leave the reigning three-time Premier League champions had become all too apparent in recent months, and Ferguson insists it was out of the question to expect the player to stay any longer.
''He wanted to leave, it's as simple as that,'' Ferguson told The Mail on Sunday. ''He was going to go some time.
''We've done well to keep him for so long.''
However United defender Nemanja Vidic insists he is staying at Old Trafford.
The no-nonsense centre-back has been linked with a move away and, with Cristiano Ronaldo set to complete a move to Real Madrid this summer, the loss of the another influential player would have proved a real blow for Ferguson.
But Vidic told the News of the World: ''I am very happy here and next season we will start again. I have got no desire to go anywhere.
''People forget that when you join a new league you don't just have to adjust to the country, you also have to adjust to the style of football.
''I feel my game is well adjusted to England now and I want to play a part in a successful team next season. United can make it a record four titles in a row next year.''
