Barcelona seal €4.5m deal for defender Maxwell
Barcelona have reached an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Brazilian defender Maxwell in a €4.5m ($6.4m) deal, the Spanish league club said on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old left-back is Barcelona's first signing since becoming the first Spanish club to win the treble - the league, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
Barcelona said the deal for Maxwell, who made 33 appearances for the Italian champions last season, could reach €5m ($7m).
Barcelona, who have been seeking a replacement for Silvynho, had been negotiating with Deportivo La Coruna for defender Filipe Luis but could not agree on a price.
Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Aleksandr Hleb will leave the Spanish club at the end of the year unless he starts playing more regularly, Russian daily Sport-Express quoted him as saying.
"For now I'm still a Barca player," the 28-year-old Belarus international told the newspaper. "I'll try my best but if my situation doesn't improve then I will have to find another club."
Hleb moved from Arsenal for €15m ($21.07m) 12 months ago but played only a limited role last season.
