Manchester United & Manchester City Join Race For Inter Defender Maicon

~

Manchester United and Manchester City have joined the queue to sign Brazilian international wing-back Maicon, who claimed last week that he was being “neglected” byInter and that he was prepared to “pursue happiness” at a different club. His remarks soon sent the rumour mill into overdrive, with big spenders Real Madrid allegedly ready to bid €20 million plus the services of Dutch international midfielder Wesley Sneijder. But it seems that los Blancos will be rivalled by the Manchester duo for Maicon's signature. The Red Devils will pocket €94m from the sale of Portuguese ace Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Sir Alex Ferguson has allegedly set aside €25m to lure Maicon to Old Trafford. However, the cash-rich Citizens are reportedly ready to up the ante further. The 27-year-old is tied to the Beneamata until 2012 and earns €3.5m a year, however, his agent, Antonio Caliendo, has recently stated that those wages do not reflect the worth of his client. Only the offer of a new and improved deal is likely to appease the former Monaco man and his future should become clearer over the next few hours. Caliendo is expected to meet with the Nerazzurri officials either today or tomorrow.
